Cet ancien Ministre Zaïrois de la Jeunesse, Sport, Culture et Arts, fut assassiné à Butembo, par un des militaires de Mobutu, qui pillaient la ville, alors qu’il venait de Beni pour les calmer.
Une autre mort venue jetter de l’opprobre sur ce même mois, c’est l’assassinat, le 16 Janvier 2001, du Soldat du peuple, Laurent Désiré Kabila. Ce tombeur du Président Mobutu, présenté par le peuple Congolais comme libérateur, après avoir mené héroïquement la guerre contre le Maréchal, à pieds, depuis l’Est jusqu’à Kinshasa, est allé mourrir, sas bataille, dans des circonstances non encore élucidées.
Enfin, c’est Emery Patrice Lumumba, dont le nom de naissance est Elias Okit’Asombo. Il est commémoré chaque 17 Janvier et est mort assassiné en 1961. Il est considéré comme le premier héros national de la République Démocratique du Congo.
Pour ne citer que ces quelques cas emblématiques, le mois de Janvier fait peur aux hommes politiques du pays ainsi que d’autres dignitaires gouvernementaux. Se greffant à la pensée négro-africaine, nombreux sont convaincus qu’il y aurait une sorte de malédiction, sinon de démon qui n’arrive qu’en Janvier se nourrir de l’âme d’un politicien Congolais. Et, donc, qu’il serait nécessaire, si possible, de se mettre à l’abri, sans trop savoir comment.
